Page 1
Consumption is rising, since the 1960s we have almost trebled the amount of energy we use. Oil appears to level out because the amount available is steady and continuous. Consumption of gas has increased enormously over the last 50 years. Coal consumption has risen from 2000 to 6000.
USA and Russia have low percentage populations but relatively high energy consumption e.g. USA population = 4.6% and their energy consumption = 25.4%
Africa and China have relatively high populations but low energy consumption e.g. Africa population = 13.1% and their energy consumption = 3%
This is to do with development - USA and Europe are similar in terms of development however Europe is more capitalist individualism and USA is more capitalist.
Non OECD countries have higher energy consumption in particular China.

What is energy poverty?
Over 166 billion people today have no access to electricity. 80% of these live in India and Saharan Africa.
4 out of 5 people lacking access to electricity live in rural areas. By 2050 1.4 billion will still have no electricity
Today 2.4 billion people in LEDCs rely heavily on biomass. By 2050 2.6 billion people in LEDCs will continue to rely on biomass
