- 1AtomAn atom is the smallest particle, it joins with other atoms to create matter. It is made of a nucleus and electrons.
- 2Parts of an atomElectrons (negative charge), valence electrons (are on outer shell), protons (positive charge), neutrons (neutral), shells and the nucleus.
- 3John DaltonJohn Dalton believed that atoms were tiny balls and indivisible, he created this theory in 1893.
- 4Joseph ThompsonJoseph Thompson discovered the electron in 1897, this discovery helped him find out atoms weren’t solid balls like Dalton thought.
- 5Ernest RutherfordRutherford discovered that there is a nucleus in the center of an atom, that electrons move around it and that an atom is mostly empty space. He figured this out in 1911.
- 6Niels BohrNiels Bohr agreed (in 1913) that the nucleus is in the center and has a positive charge and that electrons move around the nuclues. He believed that electrons orbit around in a specific way (like a shell).
- 7Werner HeisenbergWerner discovered that electrons don't have exact paths and atoms have energy levels and sub levels
