Flashcards
Embryology
Flashcards do conjunto (15)
- 1Ductus venosisSphincter mechanism allowing the liver to be bypassed
- 2Ductus arteriosisConnection of the pulmonary trunk to descending aorta. Protects lungs and allows heart to exercise
- 3Foramen ovaleR&L atrium connection. Protects developiong lungs, high pressure into RA no capillary bed from liver. Septum secundum closes at birth
- 4What is the primary heart field further divided into?First heart and second heart field
- 5What is the first structure formed by the first heart field?Heart tube
- 6What steps occur to the heart tube to form the structure of the heart?Remodelling occurs. Differential growth twists the heart, followed by wedging which divides the atria into 2. Septation then divides the ventricles, aortic and pulmonary circulation.
- 7Second heart field expresses what gene?TBX1
- 8What aligns the atria and ventricles? and what do these go onto from?Endocardial cushions, valves
- 9How is the left and right atria divided?Septum primum grows down to cover the ostium primum. Septum secundum grows down to cover ostium secundum but still allows communication at this stage.
- 10What divides the ventricles?Muscular septum with the mesenchymal cap
- 11What septates the OFT into the aortic and pulmonary trunks?Neural crest
- 12What do the 3rd, 4th and 6th aortic arches become?3rd- L & R carotid arteries
4th- Aorta and right subclavian artery
6th- L & R pulmonary arteries and ductus arteriosis - 13What can cause persistent ostium primum?Septum primum doesnt grow to AV cushion or
Septum secundum doesnt grow far enough to cover ostium secundum - 14What ventricular defects can occur?Muscular VSD
Membranous VSD - 15If neural crest doesnt migrate what may occur?Total absence of aorticopulmonary septum
Mis position
