- 1What was the first rock formed on Earth?Igneous rock was the first rock to form on Earth.
- 2What are igneous rocks?Igneous rocks are rocks formed from cooling magma.

- 4What is magma and how is it formed?Magma is molten rock that doesn't reach the Earth's surface. Scientists believe magma is formed within the lower mantle. Dissolved gases make the magma less dense than the rocks surrounding it which pushes it up through the crack in the crust above.
- 5What is lava?Lava is the molten rock that reaches the Earth's surface.
- 6What happens if the eruption happens under the ocean?The magma reaches up to the surface to become lava but then cools very rapidly.
