- 1Psychology:Research Methods
- 2ExperimentIs a way of conducting research in a controlled way.
- 3Lab ExperimentStudy conducted in an artificial setting. All variables are controlled except for one key variable. which is altered to see the effect.
(Variable that you alter = Independent) - 4Field ExperimentStudies conducted outside the laboratory
(Measured in natural environment)
A key variable is still altered to measure the effect. - 5Natural ExperimentLooks at how an independent variable affects a dependent variable. The independent is not manipulated because it's an event in which occurs naturally.
For example, the effect of a single-sex school and a mixed school on behaviour. - 6Quasi ExperimentAn experiment which assigns participants into conditions based on their innate characteristics. This particular characteristic is often the independent variable in the study.
- 7Naturalistic ObservationObserving subjects in a natural environment. Researchers try not to interfere in anyway.

- 8Controlled ObservationThe situation is observed in conditions set up by the researcher

- 9Correlation ResearchLooks for a relationship between two variables

- 10Structured interviewsFollow a fixed set of questions that are the same for all participants

- 11Unstructured interviewsDiscussing topics of relevance rather than fixed questions

- 12Case StudiesIndeph description of someone or a case
- 13Content analysisAnalysing secondary data or data you've collected (e.g. Interviews)
- 14AimA statement of a study's purpose (E.g. - to study conformity in an unambiguous task)
- 15HypothesisA prediction of what will be shown by the research
- 16Null HypothesisWhat you're going to assume is true in the study
- 17Alternative HypothesisIf the data doesn't support your null Hypothesis, you can go with your alternative hypothesis.
- 18Directional HypothesisWhen the hypothesis states which group will do better
- 19Non-Directional HypothesisPredict a difference, but won't say which will do better
- 20VariableA quantity whose value can change
