Fluxograma

Clotting

Mary Walker Biology A level Inglês

Conteúdo do fluxograma

  1. The endothelium becomes damaged / dysfunctional

  2. An inflammatory response is triggered

  3. WBCs move from blood vessel to artery walls, accumulating chemicals in the blood, like cholesterol

  4. A fatty deposit builds up: an atheroma

  5. Calcium salts and fibrous tissue build up, resulting in the formation of a plaque

  6. The fibrous tissue build-up causes loss of elasticity in the inner artery wall

  7. The lumen of the artery narrows, meaning blood struggles to flow through.

  8. There is dangerous positive feedback (plaques = rise in blood pressure = more plaques)

  9. Atherosclerosis

  10. Blood Clotting

  11. Platelets stick to the damaged wall and each other, forming a platelet plug

  12. Thromboplastin released from damaged tissue and calcium ions & vitamin K in plasma trigger clotting cascade

  13. Thromboplastin catalyses the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin

  14. Thrombin catalyses the conversion of fibrinogen (soluble) to fibrin (insoluble)

  15. A fibrin mesh forms, trapping RBCs and forming a clot
