1. FLASH UNIT

   • WHAT IT IS?
     • Separates a mixture into two phases. The conditions in the flash unit, such as temperature or pressure, are altered to separate the feed into two single phase streams.
   • HOW IT WORKS?
     • 1. Mixture is separated by passing it through a flash drum at fixed T and P
       • 2. Mixture reaches eqm. (Vap leaves the top and liquid at the bottom
         • 3. Degree of separation depends on: the composition, concentration, T and P
   • WHY?
     • To separate valuable and desired products from unwanted mixtures
