Slaty cleavage
- Low grade regional metamorphism in which platy minerals recrystallize perpendicular to the applied stress during metamorphism
Foliation
- Low grade regional metamorphism in which layers all in one direction so that the rock can split into thin sheets. the direction of the sheets is 90° to the direction of applied pressure
Porphyroblastic
- A texture in which one can see large crystals (porphyroblastics) that has grown during recrystallization in a metamorphic rock and is surrounded by a finer grained groundmass of other crystals
Schistosity
- Is the texture in a medium and course grained metamorphic rock formed by the preferred alignment of flat minerals with the sheen lustre usually caused by the mica mineral present
Gneissose Banding
- Is the segregation of light and dark minerals into layers or bands at the scale of mm to cm in thickness. The light band is normally granoblastic (granular) and the dark band shows schistosity
Granoblastic
- Describes the texture of the metamorphic rock that contains interlocking equi-dimensional crystals
