1. Input, Processing & Output

   • Input: Is the entering of data into a digital device.
     • Input devices
       • Mouse
       • Keypad
       • Microphone
       • Scanner
       • Touch Pad
       • Touch Screens
       • Webcam
   • Output: The data/outcome produced by the income after the processing.
     • Output Devices
       • Screen
       • Printer
       • Speaker
       • Robot Arm
       • Motor
       • Switches
   • Processing: Reading the input and deciding on a output.
     • Processing Devices
       • CPU: (Central Processing unit) Makes all the decisions from the input.
       • RAM (random Access Memory) allows the CPU to save current tasks and acts as memory whilst the computer is turned on.
       • Backing Storage: This allows you to save data from the computer onto devices as backup E.G. Memory Stick ,CD's, Floppy Disks and Hard Disk Drives

2. BIOS

   • It is the set of instructions that are used when the computer is starting up which contains the crucial instructions for starts up but also allows access to the hard drive to access the operating system.

3. Interface Types

   • Graphical User Interface: It is the commonly used interfaced type and has certain characteristics like WIMP (windows, Icon, Menus and Pointers) It is easy to use as it uses visual representation and is set up around the user.
   • Command Line Interface: it is harder to use as it requires the use of code which not everybody knows. It does also not appear as user friendly. However you can complete more complex tasks and build the computer more around yourself using code.

4. Computer Types

   • There are several different types of computers that perfect for different types of the user requirements
     • Laptop perfect for commuters who require decent amounts of storage and processing power
     • PDA (personal Digital assistant) used by delivery men for what products need delivering and addresses.
     • Smart Phone: commonly used now as portable contains cameras and are also easy to use.
     • Mainframe computer: Used by large businesses to run the large amounts of data that need to be processed and run all the necessary instructions
     • Embedded Computer: used to run simple task in small devices such as a Calculator.
