1. AIM of this techniques?

   • To reduce the volume of a dataset while maintaining the integrity of the original dataset, such that analysis performed on the reduced dataset will yield similar results as those of analysis performed on the original dataset.

2. What are the 3 ways to achieve DR?

   • sampling:
     • obtain a subset of records that represents the entire dataset;
   • discretisation
     • convert numeric variables to categorical variables--- reduction in possible number of values that the variable can take
   • attribute selection
     • reduce the number of attributes.
