   • Believe the nuclear family is the basic form of family in every society.
   • essential to sustain society

2. Husband, Wife, 2 children inside of wedlock and a pet.

3. Murdock (1949): "the family is a social group characterised by common residence, economic co-operation and reproduction. It includes adullts of both sexes , at least one or more children, the adluts must maintain a healthy sexual relationship."

   • Murdocks definition is outdates , Giddens' definition is more flexible...
     • "a family is a group of persons directly linked by kin connections, the adult members of which assume the responsibility of caring for the children"

4. families that share the same home

   • Work together and share money and domestic tasks
     • Reproduce
     • Male and female adults, sexual marital couple that are accepted by society.
       • at least one child
