     • E.G. Record sales, purchases, update stock levels

     • E.G. Booking a flight

   • Used when lots of different people work on a document
   • Able to route documents to different personnel
   • Reduces bottlenecks in the flow of work

   • Keeps track of electronically stored documents
   • Used when data arrives in different formats
   • Example of this system: Dealing with insurance claims

       • Presents the information in suitable form
