Describe two key features of Feminism.
Feminism is a structural, conflict theory. This means that it looks a society as a whole. There are different types of feminist perspectives- Marxist, radical, liberal and black. Marxist feminists explore capitalism and male dominance, particularly within economy. Radical feminists are extreme feminists. They explore patriarchy irrespective of the economic system and issues relating to any type of male power. Liberal feminists believe inequality between men and women arises because of unfair laws. Black feminists explore both racial and gender discrimination.
Describe one strength and one weakness of Feminism.
One strength of feminism is that it is good at explaining the reasons behind gender inequalities in society. Feminism looks into patriarchy and how conflict within society based on gender. This is highlighted through the fight more women to gain equal rights as men. A weakness of the feminist theory is that critics claim that feminists ignore other structural factors that can lead to disadvantage and focus only on gender. Feminists ignore the fact that some men suffer disadvantage yet don't look into this. They also ignore other factors such as culture.
