Ferdinand Magellan was born in Portugal in?

Charles I of Spain commissioned Ferdinand to find a route to the Spice Islands (Moluccas)

Ferdinand left the port of [blank_start]Seville[blank_end] on 26th September [blank_start]1519[blank_end] with [blank_start]270[blank_end] men and [blank_start]5[blank_end] ships.

On 22nd May the [blank_start]Santiago[blank_end] was shipwrecked In October [blank_start]1520[blank_end] they finally found the bottom of [blank_start]South America[blank_end] (now known as the [blank_start]Straits of Magellan[blank_end]). It took 2 [blank_start]months[blank_end] to pass the Strait. The [blank_start]San Antonio[blank_end] abandoned the fleet an sailed back to Spain.

Once they passed the Straits of Magellan they entered the Atlantic Ocean.

In March 1521 Ferdinand and his remaining ships landed in the [blank_start]Philippines[blank_end].

In return for [blank_start]supplies[blank_end] from a local tribe Ferdinand helped a local Chief in a war. Magellan was [blank_start]killed[blank_end]. From the initial fleet of 5 ships and 270 men they returned to [blank_start]Spain[blank_end] on 6th September [blank_start]1522[blank_end] with [blank_start]1[blank_end] ship and [blank_start]19[blank_end] men.

Ferdinand Magellan was the first man to lead a fleet to [blank_start]circumnavigate[blank_end] the globe.
