Epidemiological Transition Model
- Stage 1 Pre transition - DR high (infectious diseases common) These are Exogentic = due to outside factors eg hygiene and lifestyle - NOT genetic factors - can be epidemic or pandemic - countries have inadequate nutrition, sanitation and hygiene - Britain passed through 18th century. LEDCs in the lowest section of development . Life expectancy is low = Sierra Leone
- Stage 2 Receding pandemic - DR fall rapidly , infectious diseases are controlled . significant developments in nutrtion and sanitation , greater understanding of how diseases spread so governments control this.
- Stage 3 Degenerative, man made - degenerative (dementia/ Alzheimer's) and endogenetic diseases are common. Also known as diseases of affluence = obesity
