Slides in this set (4)

  1. NETWORKS

    • LAN- Local Area Network- mainly used for homes schools.
    • WAN- Wide Area Network - mainly used for large geographical scale things.
  2. Bus Network

    • Bus Network
    • A bus network is a more efficient way of using lots of computers because data goes from one computer to the others with the main source being the server.there are also two terminators at each end of the cable that kills the signal. A basic definition of the bus network system is that all workstations, servers and printers are connected to one wire.
  3. Ring Network

    • Ring Network
    • A basic definition of the ring network is that each device is connected to 2 other devices. Some advantages of the ring network is it can transfer data quickly because it only goes in one direction that's why it is a circle because you can only go one way unless you turn back around and you hardly want to go back to the computer. One disadvantage of the ring network is that if one cable fails then the whole network fails because it is a ring and only has one cable connecting every device up.
  4. Star Network

    • Star Network
    • A simply definition of the the star network is that each device has its own cable that is connected to a hub or switch. One advantage of of the star network is that it is very reliable because if one cable fails all the other devices still work because on a star network the computers are connected to a hub and the hub is connected to the server so it has its own wire to the hub so if one brakes the other computers can carry on. one disadvantage to the ring network is that it is very expensive to install because everything has its own wire.
