- Basically, translators just turn programming language (Easy to read by humans) and convert it into machine code that the computer understands
-
- Machine code, which is just 1s and 0s is very difficult for humans to follow, to get around this programmers use assembly code.
- Assembly code uses mnemonics to represent code. Then an assembler is used to turn assembly code to machine code line by line.
-
- For a computer to run a program written in high-level programming language it needs to be converted to machine code. To do this you can either use a compiler or interpreter.
- A compiler takes code written in a high-level language and builds up an executable machine code program.
- An interpreter takes each line of code and convert it into machine code and runs it before reading the next line.
- A compiler can take a while to do, however one built it can be run immediately. An interpreter can start running the program straight away however it will run slower as it has to translate each line as it runs.
