THIS HAS BEEN INTO TURN IT IN DON't COPY EXACTLY.The Japanese feudal system is hugely different from European system.  The Emperor and the and the Shogun were hugely different because of the Pope. The Emperor and the king were very different because the emperor only had spiritual power while the king had both spiritual and political power. While they were very different Daimyo’s and Barons were very similar, because they had both had to supply the Emperor/ King with land, Daimyo’s and Barons were both very high up on the feudal system. Only answering to the King/Shogun.  Samurai’s and Knights were very similar and unique, they both were highly valuable to the Shoguns/ Kings because of constant warfare. They also had a Code of Conduct that was greatly affected by Religion. Also instead of being paid in rice Knights were paid in land. Peasants were also had very similar jobs, although they had the same jobs Japanese peasants were given a lot more respect and privileges.   While the Emperor and Shogun of feudal Japan held a similar position of power to the King of feudal Europe, there were some difference in social structure. The Kings had both symbolic power and political power because they “ruled by divine right” (source 1) while the Emperor of Japan was a “symbol of sovereignty behind the Shogun” (source 2) who held the actual political power. The King and the Shogun were in charge of land distribution among the Daimyos and Barons and this similarity was the foundation of their power. However, the Pope provides a key difference as he had the power to “intervene and impose sanctions on an unjust King” (source 1) while the Shoguns had complete independence. While the combined power of the Emperor and the Shogun were similar to the King, the Pope occupied a higher position than the King, that did not exist in the Japanese feudal system.   Daimyos and Barons in medieval time both very relatable, with only minor differences. Daimyo’s and Barons both had to be able to supply the king/emperor with knights/samurai, pay rent and taxes and swear an oath of loyalty to the King/Shogun in return for land. “The daimyos were appointed as military governors under the Ashikaga Shoguns, they held legal jurisdiction over areas as large as provinces. The daimyo’s private landholdings were quite limited, however, and these daimyo gained much of their income from levying taxes on lands owned by civil aristocrats and religious establishments.” Samurai and Knights were equal in political power because they were both essential to the Shoguns and Kings because “in both feudal systems, constant warfare made Knights and Samurai important.” Causing them to be both high up in the feudal system. Samurai’s and Knights both had key similarities including a code of conduct that was affected by religion they also had “servants to help work the lands that they received.” Although they were very alike they had many crucial differences. Unlike Knights “Samurai did not own any land but were paid in rice, While Knights gained land from their lords as payment.”(Source 7) “Samurai women were expected to be strong like men while European women were considered soft. Samurai were expected to be cultured and artistic. “While Knights were usually illiterate preferring hunting or jousting.” Samurai women were expected to be strong like men while European women were considered soft and fragile   Peasants and Commoners in medieval Europe and Japan were very similar and different in many particular aspects.  Japanese farmers were respected for their hard work, while European farmers were important “They were located at the bottom of the social order of the feudal system.” (source 8) Unlike European feudalism the Japanese merchants “Were the lowest ranking because if was felt they made their living off of other people’s work.” (source 8) European peasants were also given many taxes and oaths, they had to abide by many harsh rules like being unable to marry without the permission of the baron. Although there are many differences Japanese and European farmers both had access to medicine (European’s medicine was based off God) and they both wore cotton clothes.   As you can see the Japanese and European feudalism was both very similar and different, the Shoguns had a lot of authority over the lower class leading them to be very similar to the King, the Emperor was also similar to the king because they both had symbolic power. The Daimyo’s and Barons were also very powerful in the feudal pyramid, they both had the responsibility over samurai’s and Serfs. Samurai’s and Knights were also very important to the medieval Japan and Europe, because of constant warfare. Peasants and Commoners were very different, while Japanese farmers had respect and weren’t at the bottom class, European Farmers had no Dignity or rights. While medieval Japan and Europe Were similar in many aspects they also had key differences. THIS HAS BEEN INTO TURN IT IN DON"T COPY EXACTLY
