The Periodic Table and how it works..
- The periodic is a tabular arrangement of the chemical elements, ordered by their atomic number (number of protons), electron configurations, and recurring chemical properties. All the different elements are arranged in a chart called the periodic table. A Russian scientist called Dmitri Mendeleev produced one of the first practical periodic tables in the 19th century. The modern periodic table is based closely on the ideas he used below:
- the elements are arranged in order of increasing periods
- the horizontal rows are called periods
- the vertical columns are called groups
- elements in the same group are similar to each other
- the elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic numbers.
-
The groups in the periodic table...

- There are 8 groups in the periodic table of elements
- Alkali Metals
- Alkaline Earth Metals
- Transition Metals
- Other Metals
- Semi-Metals
- Halogens
- Non-Metals
- Noble Gases
- Caption: FACT: 3/4 OF THE PERIODIC TABLE IS DOMINATED BY METALS!!!
