  1. 1What is reliability?Whether the finding of the study produce consistent results.
  2. 2What is internal reliability? The extent to which a test or measure is consistent within itself.
    e.g. standardised procedures
  3. 3What is external reliability? The extent to which a test produces consistent results over several occasion.
  4. 4Name three ways of assessing reliability.The spilt-half method
    The test-retest method
    Inter rater reliability
  5. 5What is split half testingsplitting the participants in half and comparing one half to the other half.
  6. 6what is the test- retest method?involves testing and retesting the same participants over time with same test and comparing their scores
  7. 7What is inter-rater reliabilitywhere two or more psychologists produce consistent results by using a standardised procedures.
  8. 8What is Validity?Whether the findings paint a true picture of behaviour and whether the study is measuring what it claims to measure
  9. 9What is internal Validity?the findings are accurate and the effects on the DV are caused by the IV. Therefore the study measures what it intends to measure.
  10. 10What is external validity?whether the study paints a true picture of real life behaviours and whether the findings would apply to different places, different times or different people.
  11. 11What is researcher bias?Where the researcher either directly or indirectly influences the results of the study, through the process of designing the study or through the way the research is conducted / analysed
  12. 12What are demand characteristicsA type of confounding variable where participants unconsciously work out the aim and act differently
  13. 13What is social desirability bias?Where participants give the response that they think will show them in the best possible light. This may mean that they are not a true reflection of their real thoughts/ feelings
  14. 14Name 5 ways of assessing validity.Face Validity.
    Content Validity
    predictive validity
    concurrent validity
  15. 15What is Face validity?Simply whether the test appears to measure what it claims to, and hence is subjective.
  16. 16What is content validity?Ask an expert in that specific area of study to check is the test is valid.
  17. 17What is Predictive validity? The degree to which a test accurately predicts a future outcome on a more broadly related topic. Do the findings apply in different and more varied situations?
  18. 18What is concurrent ValidityValidating a measurement by comparing it with an established measurement that has known validity. If similar results occur on both tests. Then the new test has concurrent validity
  19. 19What is construct validity?Looks at the extent to which a test measures the intended theoretical construct or definitions of that overall behaviour.
