REACTION TO THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES

1. France

   • Enthusiasm... to begin with
     • Thought German threat was gone
   • 1 year: Should have been harder
   • Clemenceau lost French election

2. Britain

   • Most people happy
     • Thought Germany got what they deserved
   • Some worried...
     • Germany might be angry
     • Germany may fight back
       • They would do this be reclaiming all of the land that they had lost due to the treaty.

3. Germany

   • Lost 10% of land
   • Lost 12.5% of their population
   • Didn't feel they were to blame
     • Germany thought that they weren't the only ones to blame for WWI, they thought other countries played a part too. 
   • They had no say in the Treaty
     • They were forced to sign it and couldn't negotiate any of the points.
   • Thought it would be nicer to them
     • They thought this because of Wilson's 14 Points speech. 
   • German government changed
     • The government who signed the treaty were not actually the ones who had fought in the war. 
   • Army limits made them vulnerable
   • They feared poverty and starvation
     • They thought that the reparations were much higher than what they could afford and thought that they wouldn't be able to pay them.
