       • Lloyd and Margret Peterson (Peterson and Peterson) A- To find how long the duration of STM is P- the experimenter said a trigram to the participants followed by a three didget number, they then were asked to count back from the number in threes for a set amount of time until the majority could not remember the trigram F- they found that Ps remembered about 90% when there was only 3 secs and about 2% at 18 seconds, 
       • Evaluation of Peterson 1954 study  -may have been judging capacity                             may be shorter -May have known that they were going to judged on their STM - Marsh et al found that people who did not know that they were going to judged forgot things after just 2 secs.
       • STM may be longer - Nairne et al 1999, found that items could be remembered after 96 secs, (however they did the same thing to remember through the trials-practice effect) -
