1. Understanding the Context

   • You should know the difference of an argument and an expression
     • help you enhance your ability to spot arguments when they are afoot

2. Identifying the Conclusion

   • position the conclusion prominently at the beginning or the end of the argument
     • repeat the conclusion during the course of the argument several times
       • Look for words of phrases that introduce a conclusion

3. Identifying the Reason

   • gives you reason to believe it
     • No reason becomes a claim
       • Look for reason marker that will help you identify the reason easily

   • Claim of Fact
   • Claim of Value
   • Claim of Policy
