   • Armies - all nations had large armies except GB Germany 8.5 mil, Russia 4,4 mil, Frane 3.5. mil Austria-Hungary 3 mil
   • Defence budgets increased leading upto war
   • Race between germany and GB to build most Dreadnought ships GB 29 germany 17 by 1914

2. A -ALLIANCES

   • agreements/promises to defend and help another country
   • 1882 TRIPLE ALLIANCE - between Austra-HungaryItaly and Germany
   • 1907 - TRIPLE ENTENTE - between France, GB and Russia
   • europe divided into 2 armed camps

3. I - IMPERIALISM

   • Is the desire to conquer colonies
   • France & GB already had empires Germany wanted empire

4. N- NATIONALISM

   • is where you think country is better than other countries
   • 1898 GB ruled 1/5 of world
   • GB & France saw Germany as a threat
