PROBABILITY
Definations
- Sure or certain events when any event have probability 1
- Elementary Event have only one outcome of the experiment
- Complementary event for event E , P(E) = 1- P(E)
value
- Sum of probabilities of all the elementary events is 1. For event A,B, C; P(A) + P(B) + P(C) = 1
experimental probability
- Mathematically, the formula for the experimental probability is defined by; Probability of an Event P(E) = Number of times an event occurs / Total number of trials.
examples
- DICE: two dice are rolled, what is the probability of getting a sum of 11? Solution; Number of possible outcomes = 6*6 =36 Number of favourable outcomes= 1 i.e.(6) P(E)=1/36
- CARD; When a coin is tosse, what woud be the probability of appearing head? Solution; total no. of outcomes =1 P(E) =1/2
theoretical probability
- Mathematically, the theoretical probability is described as the number of favourable outcomes divided by the number of possible outcomes. Probability of Event P(E) = No. of. Favourable outcomes/ No. of. Possible outcomes.
