1. Psychologists say that it has ''outlived its usefulness''

   • E.G. Baddley & Hitch's WMM suggests there is more than one store to STM
     • Implies that STM is too simplistic

2. Many studies have shown that there is more than one type of LTM (episodic, motor, procedural, prospective) stored in different areas of the brain

   • E.G. H.M. was incapable of making new episodic memories but could learn motor skills
     • Brenda Miller showed he could learn to do a mirror drawing & improved it everytime-even if he had no memory of the learning episode
       • Not accounted in MSM - supports the idea that it is too simplistic (LTM is more complex than MSM suggests)

3. MSM describes only one way to retrieve info from STM to LTM (Rehearsal)

   • ppl can remember things without even rehearsing it - may be funny/sad - Craik & Lockhart found that semantic processing improves your memory recall than repetition
     • More than one way in which info can be transferred from STM to LTM
