2. bourgeois was satisfied to leave well enough alone but the sansculotte were not satisfied and rioting ensues

3. king attempts to flee to varennes

   • growing fears that the king cannot be trusted, that he wants to hold on to old ways
     • the people knew that Louis wouldn't be able to truly share power in the way that they now wanted.
