1. CONSISTS OF

   • TWO LUNGS
     • Cone shaped organs dived into lobes: right lung has 3 lobes, left lung has 2 lobes
     • the lungs contain continually branching airways called bronchi and bronchioles and at the end of bronchioles are ALVEOLAR SACS
       • Each ALVEOLUS is surronde by a network of small blood vessels calls CAPILLARIES
         • the combination of the alveolar wall and the capillary wall is called ALVEOLAR-CAPILLARY MEMBRANE
           • THIS MEMBRANE REPRESENT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE RESPIRATORY AND THE CARDIO-VASCULAR SYSTEM
             • THIS IS WHERE THE VITAL PROCESS OF GAS EXCHANGE TAKES PLACE
   • UPPER AND LOWER AIRWAYS
     • UPPER: nasal cavity, sinuses, pharynx, larynx. hereNO gas exchangr occurs
     • LOWER: trachea, main stem bronchi, lobar bronchi, segmental bronchi, subsegmental bronchi, bronchioles, terminal brinchioles. alveolar ducts, alveolar sacs
   • A THORACIC CAGE
     • tha houses, protect and facilitate function of the system
       • IT ENLARGES AND DEFLATES USING ALL THESE MUSCLES

   • THE CONTROL CENTER located in the Medulla Oblongata which sends impluses via the phrenic nerve to the diphragm
   • MUSCLE OF BREATHING
     • BREATHING MECHANISM
       • INHALATION
         • EXTERNAL INTERCOSTAL MUSCLES they contract during inhalation and relax during exalation
         • INTERNAL INTERCOSTAL MUSCLES they relax during inhalation and contract during exalation
       • EXALATION
         • DIAPHRAGM
           • ACCESSORY MUSCLES

2. this system is responsible for providing all the body's oxygen needs and removing carbon dioxide

3. THE PROCESS OF MOVING GAS INTO AND OUT OF THE RESPIRATORY SUSTEM IS CALED VENTILATION

   • THE PROCESS OF GAS EXCHANGE AT THE BODY TISSUE IS CALLED INTERNAL RESPIRATION
