1. Autopsy

   • Autopsy works by cutting up the body of the victim and looking inside. They could work out how long they had been dead by feeling the temprature of the body
   • Positives are that you can identify if they'ed just been killed and you can establish the cause of death
   • Negative is that the body is removed from the crime scene so the crime scene is disturbed

2. Interviews and following up clues

   • This works by them interviewing people that saw or lived around the area of the murder and using clues to search the right places
   • A positive of this is that it can lead to new evidence being found
   • A negative is that Interviews can sometimes give false leads

3. Identification techniques

   • In interviews of witnesses they used the description of what the murderer looked like to create a sketch of his face
   • They then put posters up to show the public what he may look like
   • A positive is that it narrows down the type of person they are looking for
   • A negative is that the description may be inaccurate.

4. Careful observation

   • Careful observation is done by an inspector and consisted of them taking notes of the crime scene
   • The positives of this are that a record of what the scene looked like was taken and it can be used after the crime scene has gone
   • A negative is that it can be misinterpreted and not always accurate

5. Photography

   • Photography is where they take a photo of the crime scene and body
   • Positives are that photos can be used for ages and it is an exact image of the crime scene
   • A negative is that people didn't fully understand the effectivness of it and it is only two dimensianal
