Before the kaiser abdicated the sailors were sent on a final attack but they mutated and turned back towards the capital and demanded the abdication of the Kier Wilhelm II. The kisar abdicated on 9th November 1918. power was then taken by Friedrich Ebert who was the leader. he set up the council of peoples representatives. On the 11th November he signed the Armistice which stopped the war. The Treaty of Versailles was the treaty that decided the consequences to put on Germany they were reparations, war guilt, Military restrictions, territorial changes and weapon limitations. The stab in the back theory set to destroy the republic Government as they thought that they were winning the war and the politicians were called the November Criminals. From the Treaty of Versailles problems were caused in Germany these were the crisis of the Ruhr, Growth of nationalism, the weakening of the Reichstag and the Kapp Putsch.

The Weirmar republic was good as it was the most democratic country in the word (Every one over 20 had the vote). It was also good as the current state governments were continued. The weimar government had two major parts to it Proportional representation which meant that there was often short termed coalition governments. There was also Article 48 Which didn't state what was an emergency. The Weeknesses of the Weimar Republic was that it gave free speech so the government was constantly under attack, there was no changes to the army or judiciary, voting system and the President had the power to appoint and dismiss the chancellor.

The sparticus uprising was carried out on January 1919 it was lead by Rosa Luxembourg and Karl Libkecht. Some of the events that occurred during the uprising were that they took over the newspaper, they tried to organise a general strike in Berlin which received little support from the people of Berlin. The following day Ebert created a force called the freicorps. They were 4,000 ex-soldiers that liked to fight and hated communism. The Sparacists were crushed and Luxemburg and Liebknecht were arrested and shot for resisting arrest during transportation. The event showed us that the Wiemar Republic was unstable and that a socialist left wing group was attacked by an even more left wing group. They made sure that this didn't happen again by becoming dependant on the support of the army an by not changing the leadership.

The Kapp putsch was in March 1920 Dr Wolfgang Kapp used the Freikorps to occupy Berlin. The army refused to suppress the Putsch but the trade unions created a strike that caused chaos leading to Kapp fleeing. This showed that the Republic had gained support from the Workers but had lost the support of the army.

The Nazi Party were a far right wing party who had four main polices Nationalism, socialism, Anti-communism and Antisemitism. There were three major challenges during 1923 the Munich Putsch, Hyperinflation and the invasion of the Ruhr. Hyperinflation occurred as a result of the Printing of money for the reparations but when the French invaded the Ruhr and there was money going to the workers but no materials were being made. So the German mark became worthless. This was good for farmers who got paid more for food, people and businesses in dept and fixed rents became cheap. However it was bad for people that couldn't afford essentials. Wages rose but not as high as prices, Businesses went bankrupt, savings became worthless and the Wiemar government became even more unpopular as they were blamed.
