The cost of Dynamic Routing
Different protocols measure = bandwidth, cost, delay, hops.
Basic Information on Dynamic Routing
used since 1980's,
RIP= routing information protocol.
RIPv2
ARPANET= Advanced research projects agency network
OSPF= Open shortest path first
IS-IS= intermediate system to intermediate system.
IGRP= inferior gateway routing protocol
EIGRP= enhanced inferior gateway routing protocol ^ scaled well in larger in network implementations
BGP=border gateway protocol, (used between ISP's and larger private clients to exchange routing information
ISP= internet service provider
Routing protocols= used to facilitate the exchange of routing information between routers. (processes, algorithms and messages that exchange routing information and populate the routing table with best path).
Dynamic routing protocols= discover remote networks, maintain up to date routing info, choose best path destination, ability to find new best paths)
Data structures= routing protocols tables stored in RAM.
Routing protocol messages= messages to discover neighboring routers, exchange info learn and maintain accurate info.
Algorith- finite list of steps used by routers for facilitating info and best path.
