-Introduce yourself

-Address by last name only, regardless of age

-Draping: ask permission to uncover, ask permission to untie gown, make sure to re-tie

-Explain PE parts before doing them

-Don't repeat painful procedures

-Show compassion for pain: say "I understand, but need to diagnose, shouldn't take long" if they refuse

-Make sure to ask about their emotion: You seem 'sad' or 'angry'

-No medical jargon

-You can ask a patient to repeat things

-Summary statement

-Counselling: discuss findings, differential diagnosis, next steps and possible treatments

-Ask, "What questions do you have?"

-Ask, "Does that answer your question?"
