Computer Science

Cards in this deck (23)

  1. 1Converting Between Denary and BinaryBinary (from right to left) goes up in powers of twos
  2. 2Two's ComplementGoing from the right flip every number after the first 1
  3. 3Sign and MagnitudeSimply flip the first number
  4. 4Binary to HexadecimalSplit the binary into sections of 4, adding 0s to the left if necessary, and take each group of 4 as a hex digit.
  5. 5ASCIIASCII is American based so it only carries the Latin lettering. It only supports 256 characters
  6. 6UNICODEUNICODE is universal so it holds more than ASCII. Some older machines will not have UNICODE built in, though.
  7. 7Program FlowPrograms usually start at the top and flow downwards. This means that you can't declare a variable below where you mean to use it because the machine won't know that this variable exists
  8. 8Variables and ConstantsVariables and constants hold data within a program. Variables can "vary" while the code is running however constants will stay "constant"
  9. 9Trace TablesTrace tables are used to follow and keep track of a piece of code to work out what it does. A trace table is simply a table with a column for each factor you might need
  10. 10PseudocodePseudocode is a way of writing code that isn't tied to the same restrictions programming and has very few rules.
  11. 11Benefits of IDEsIDE is an Intergrated Development Environment like Visual Studio.
Allows the user to code and develop a program while helping them along the way. IDEs flag up syntax errors in code
  12. 123 Box ModelShows the movement of data in the computer. 3 boxes: processor, main memory and, input/output. Also shows the bus
  13. 13Expanded 3 Box Model3 buses: Address, control and data
3 boxes: Processor, keyboard input controller, VDU output controller, Disk I/O controller and Memory
  14. 14Inside the ProcessorThe processor consists of the ALU, CU, 3 buses and the 5 registers: PC, ACC, MAR, MDR and CIR
  15. 15Sequence and SelectionSequence is similar to program flow
    Selection is if statements
  16. 16CPU PerformanceClock Speed is measured in Hz. It is the number of ticks per second.
More cores means that instructions can potentially be split up and done fatser
Cache is small and expensive but very fast as it is close to the CPU
  17. 17The FDE CyclePC copied to MAR
    Add 1 to PC
    Data at location fetched
    Data copied to MDR/MBR
    MBR copied to CIR
    Data decoded and executed
  18. 18InterationFor loops basically
    For x 1 to 5 etc
  19. 19Von Neumann vs HarvardIn Von Neumann archetecture, data and instructions are stored together with 1 bus
In Harvard architechture data and instructions are seperate and they have a bus each.
  20. 20Assembly language and LMCAssembly language is a low level language
Little Man Computer is an example of Assembly language
  21. 21Logic Gates and Truth TablesLogic Gates and Truth Tables
  22. 22Boolean Logic∧ is AND
    v is OR
    ¬ is NOT
    ⊻ is XOR
  23. 23—
