- 1LoaderThe loader is a small program held in ROM. When a computer is switched on, the loader in ROM sends instructions to load the OS by copying it from storage into RAM

- 6MultitaskingMultitasking is the concurrent execution of multiple tasks over a certain period of time. New tasks can interrupt already started ones before they finish, instead of waiting for them to end
- 7Interrupt Service Routine (ISR)An ISR is a software routine that hardware invokes in response to an interrupt. ISR examines an interrupt and determines how to handle it executes the handling, and then returns a logical interrupt value
- 8SchedulingScheduling is the action of assigning resources to perform tasks. It makes sure that processor time is used as efficiently as possible
- 9Time SlicingA limited interval of time allotted to each user or program in a multitasking or timesharing system. Time slices are typically in milliseconds
- 10Interval TimerThe interval timer generates interrupts at specific times to help guarantee a reasonable time to all users of the system
- 11BufferThe buffer compensates for the difference in speed between output devices and the CPU. It stores data just before it reaches the CPU so the CPU can continue with another task
