FRANKENSTEIN CHAPTER SUMMARIES
Cards in this deck (5)
- 1LETTER 1Walton tells sister of preparations to depart. He expresses his burning passion to accomplish "some great purpose" and his desire that one day he might "tread a land never before imprinted by the foot of man"
- 2LETTER 2Walton bemoans his lack of friends. He feels lonely and isolated, too sophisticated to find friendship in his shipmates. He is a romantic, expressing his "love for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellous" - which is what pushes him along this lonely, perilous path.
- 3LETTER 3Walton tells his sister that his ship has set sail, he expresses his confidence in achieving his goal.
- 4LETTER 4The ship sets sail through the ice. The men spot a sledge guided by a gigantic creature in the distance. The next day they encounter another sledge (stranded) with a different man on who is weak, emaciated and starving. The man boards the ship and is nursed by the crew. Walton prevents them from questioning the still fragile man. Walton and the stranger become friends and he begins to tell the story - ending Walton's narrative and beginning his.
