Flashcards
Articulations
Cards in this deck (17)
- 1classification of joints based on functionsynarthroses, amphiarthroses, diarthroses
- 2classification of joints based on structurefibrous joints, cartilaginous joints, synovial joints
- 3types of fibrous jointssutures, syndesmoses, gomphoses
- 4types of cartilaginous jointssynchondroses, symphyses
- 5distinguishing features of synovial jointshas a cavity, articular cartilage, synovial cavity, synovial fluid, articular capsule, and reinforcing ligaments
- 6stability of joints depends on what?how well do shapes of articulating surfaces match, how many ligaments are supporting the joint, and how toned are the muscles that act on the joint?
- 7ranges of motion allowed by synovial jointsnonaxial movement, uniaxial movement, biaxial movement, and multiaxial movement
- 8three types of movements allowed by synovial jointsgliding, angular, and rotation
- 9types of movement via angular motionabduction, adduction, circumduction, flexion, extension, hyperextension
- 10types of movement via rotationleft or right, lateral or medial
- 11special movementssupination and pronation, inversion and eversion, elevation and depression, protraction and retraction, opposition, dorsiflexion and plantar flexion, lateral flexion
- 12types of synovial jointsplane, hinge, pivot, condylar, and saddle
- 13what is the largest and most complex joint in the body?knee
- 14what three joints make the knee?femoropatellar, lateral, and medial
- 15what does the ball-and-socket joint of the shoulder do?sacrifices stability for increased mobility
- 16common joint injuriescartilage tears such as sprains and dislocation
- 17inflammatory and degenerative conditionsbursitis, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis
