Flashcards
CPU
Cards in this deck (18)
- 1What is the CPU?Central Processing Unit
- 2The cache is the .... fastest (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.)1st fastest because it is the shortest distance from the CPU
- 3How does the CPU work?Fetch data, Decode it then execute/complete the instructions
- 4More cores mean what? The CPU can complete more then one task at once
- 5How many tasks can an individual core do?One task per core
- 6What is the cache? It is where temporary data is stored
- 7CPU fetches from the...Cache-RAM-Secondary Storage (hard drive, etc.)
- 8What is clock speed? How many instructions it can do in a second
- 9What is measured in Hertz?Clock Speed
- 10What is cache?Temporary memory in the CPU
- 11What is the furthest memory source?Secondary storage (hard drive / magnetic state, etc.
- 12CPU's purpose is to...Complete tasks in the background
- 13How many levels of cache are there?3 (L1, L2, L3)
- 14Which core has which cache?Every core has L1 and L2 but they can all share L3
- 15ALUArithmetic Logic Unit
- 16L2 does whatIt is a secondary staging area that feeds the L1 cache
- 17Cache is located whereInside the CPU
- 18What order do they work?OS->RAM->Control unit (for inputs/outputs)-> ALU (for calculations) ->CPU-> Register
