Malachi North Computing Year 7 English 19 cards

Cards in this deck (19)

  1. 1what is the purpose of a power supply?a power supply is used to power a device
  2. 2what is an input device?a piece of equipment to plug that uses code or movement to send messages to an output device
  3. 3what is an output devicean output device is a device that shows a reaction from what you tell it to do (usually using an input device)
  4. 4what is a storage device?a storage device is a device used to store information or files off of the computer. it can also be used to project information onto other devices
  5. 5What is the purpose of the computer case?to provide protection for the inter parts of the computer because parts will most likely be delicate
  6. 6What is the purpose of a motherboard?the motherboard sends messages around the computer
  7. 7What is the purpose of the Processor?the Processer is where ball the processes are carried out
  8. 8What is the purpose of the RAM?RAM (standing for random access memory) is where the computer stores the current task that is being carried out.
  9. 9What is the purpose of ROM?It stores a program used to boot up the computer. This is called the bootstrap loader
  10. 10What is the purpose of the Hard Drive? The hard drive is where you store documents , pictures and other information
  11. 11What is a repetitive strain injury (RSI) and what causes them?RSI is where your arms or wrists start to hurt from repeatedly doing the same action such as typing or clicking
  12. 12What is the cause of back injuries when using a computer?back injuries are caused when you sit in an uncomfortable position or bend over forwards for a long time, a way to avoid this is to put the computer up at a similar height to the head and getting a comfortable chair.
  13. 13What is eye strain and what is the cause?eye strain is caused from staring at a screen for too long ways to avoid this are by taking 5 minute breaks from the screen per hour
  14. 14By law, what do employers have to provide for their employees? (in regards to working with computers)employers must provide anti-glare ,tiltable screens and comfortable chairs
  15. 15What is the purpose of Binary?binary is a simple system that the computer or a laptop can process and understand
  16. 16How many bits are in a Binary number?there can be infinite parts to it and the code can go on for ever as long as there is a denary number that can be used but binary has only two numbers, a one and a zero. when these numbers are put together it forms the on/off sign, one representing on and zero representing off
  17. 17Know how to convert from Binary to DenaryDenary is the normal ten step number system going 1234567890, binary is just a two step number system consisting of ones and zeros. The way of converting from binary to denary is quite simple. Say you have the binary number 011001 the one at the end would represent one , saying there was one one. the zero before that would be two and because it says 0 it means there are no twos in it. The next zero along is not three but four because each time the numbers double so there would be zero ones and so on like that. this number would say 25 because one plus eight plus sixteen is 25.
  18. 18Know how to convert from Denary to BinaryAs shown in the question opposite binary is consisting of 1's and 0's and denary is all the other numbers as well. So using the fact that the numbers in binary double each time 126 would be translated like this: Say you had 00000000 you would see if 128 (the eight binary number) fits into 126. It doesn't so you would leave it as a zero then you see how if 64 fits into 128, it does so you would put a one down and take 64 away from 126 which gets you 62. then you see if 32 fits into 62 and it obviously does so you would get 30. after that you see if 16 8 4 2 and 1 fit into that and eventually you would get the answer 01111110
  19. 19What devices do you need to connect to the internet? To connect to the internet you need your P.C or mac, you also need a router which is connected to the cabinets that have the information to send out to the router enabling you to connect to the internet
