- 1VygotskyWood and Middleton
12 mothers and their children. Task was to put wooden blocks together to form a pyramid structure. The mothers were shown how to do this prior. They found that both general and specific verbal instruction was used alongside preparation and modelling. The mothers who changed their help on the basis of the child's response were more likely to have their child succeed at the task. This study proved that effective tutorial involves a dynamic, interactive process - 2NativistBower
'Looming object'
Children aged 6-21 days old showed a reflex action of turning their head when an object was loomed towards them. This demonstrated that infants have an understanding of the physical world without experience - 3IP approachSiegler
Balance scale problem
Children had to say which way scales would tip dependent on how many weights were on either side and how far away they were from the fulcrum. Young children often simply guessed whereas older children used more complex strategies - 4EgocentrismPiaget and Inhelder
