- 1SQLStandard Query Language
• A popular human-readable programming language that is used to work with databases.
• These databases are not stored in text files or CSV files but in binary proprietary formats, of which the common ones include, MySQL, SQLite, MS Access, Oracle etc.
• SQL is not case sensitive but using capital letters for SQL keywords like SELECT helps create separate keywords from names and criteria.
• SQL can be either run:
o From a special window in a database package
o On top of a general-purpose language like Python or Java via special keywords.
o In batch mode from the OS command line
• Databases support a range of operations which are together known as SCRUD.
o S – Search
o C – Create
o R – Read
o U – Update
o D – Delete
