Megan Goldfinch English 8 cards

Cards in this deck (8)

  1. 1What is the purpose of the CPU?To fetch, decode and execute instructions.
  2. 2What is clock speed?Clock speed (Hz) is how many fetch, decode and execute cycles the processor can perform per second.
  3. 3What is a cache?A small high-speed memory that is used to store frequently used instructions from the CPU.
  4. 4What is the ALU?The arithmetic logic unit carries out the calculations and logical decisions in the CPU to help decode the instructions.
  5. 5What do multiple cores within the CPU do?Each core can perform a fetch, decode and execute cycle at the same time at another, which will speed up the CPU.
  6. 6How can the RAM help the fetch, decode and execute cycle? The RAM can be used to fetch instructions by the CPU but it is slower than the Caches.
  7. 7What does the Control Unit do?The Control Unit is responsible for decoding the instructions within the CPU. It sends signals to control the flow of data within the system.
  8. 8What are the names of the four registers? The Accumulator (ACC), the Memory Address Register (MAR), the Memory Data Register (MDR) and the Program Counter (PC).
