- 1What is the purpose of the CPU?The Central Processing Unit fetches, decodes and executes instructions.
- 2What is the purpose of the Volatile?Volatile memory requires electricity to store data. When the power is lost, memory is wiped.
- 3What is the purpose of RAM?Random Access Memory stores temporary data from running applications.
- 4What is the purpose of ROM?Read Only Memory stores the boot up instructions.
- 5What is the purpose of Virtual Memory?Virtual memory is an extension of RAM set up on the hard drive, used when RAM is full.
- 6What is the purpose of Clock Speed?This is how many Fetch, Decode, Execute cycles the processor can complete per second.
- 7What is the purpose of Cache?A small high speed memory used to store frequently used instructions from the CPU.
- 8What is the purpose of ALU?Arithmetic Logic Unit carries out the calculations and logical decisions within the CPU.
- 9How does the number of cores effect performance?It means the CPU can carry out multiple instructions at the same time in different cores.
- 10The role of the Control UnitThe control unit decodes the instructions. It then sends out a signal to control how data moves around the CPU (flow of data within the system).
- 11What does ALU stand for?Arithmetic Logic Unit
- 12The role of the ALUThe ALU carries out the calculations and logical decisions required by the program instruction.
