Flashcards
IDEs
Cards in this deck (9)
- 1What is an IDE?Integrated Development Environment. A program that is used for developing and debugging programs
- 2What helpful things do IDEs contain?- an editor for writing the source code
- features to help with code writing
- debugging facilities - 3what is stepping through the code?stepping allows coders to run one line at a time to check the results, then allowing them to run the next line of code.
You can also slow down execution speeds of the code to find errors. - 4what is a variable watch window?allows you to display variables often in a separate window as the code is running.
Therefore, you can see the value of all the variables while the code is running instead of keeping track yourself. - 5what are breakpoints?allows the code to be stopped at particular points whilst running. This allows you to check the value of variables
- 6what is autocomplete?the IDE will predict what you will type and fill it in for you - reducing spelling mistakes and errors in the code
- 7Colour coding/ syntax highlightingAllows coders to see errors and separate particular parts of the code
- 8What is automatic indentationThis is will auto-indent functions and modules, reducing coding time and reducing the risk of errors.
- 9What are error diagnostics? Will locate/ report errors, some even giving details about the errors. Will either pinpoint the exact location of the error or give a general location.
