Cards in this deck (13)

  1. 1What does CPU mean?Central Processing Unit
  2. 2What is cache?Cache is a temporary memory
It can be accessed much faster than RAM. The CPU looks in the cache for the data it needs, retrieves it and processes it.
  3. 3What is the slowest memory?Magnetic Tape
  4. 4What are the function of the CPU?FETCH, DECODE, EXECUTE
  5. 5What is a multi-core and what are the benefits?Multi-core contains a number of microprocessors. It is an integrated circuit of 2+ processors. This includes benefits such as enhanced performance, reduced power consumption and more efficient processing of tasks.
  6. 6What is clock speed?Clock Speed is how many processes the CPU can do in a second. 1 cycle per second is also known as 1 Hertz. The faster the clock speed the more efficient the CPU is.
  7. 7Where does the CPU fetch from? Fastest to SlowestCache, RAM, Hard drive, Magnetic Tape
  8. 8What is the purpose of a CPU?To complete the processes in the temporary data when the computer first starts
  9. 9Functions of a CPUOperating System > RAM > Control Unit (if it involves inputs/outputs) > Fetch (RAM/Cache) > Decode (ALU) > Execute > Store > Register
  10. 10How many levels does each core have?Every core has 2 personal levels and the third level onward is shared between all cores.
  11. 11Level 1 cacheMemory bank built into the CPU chip
  12. 12Level 2 cacheSecondary staging area that feeds the level 1 cache
