  1. 1CPU stands for Central Processing UnitThe CPU can be referred as the brains of the computer. It is also known as the processor or microprocessor.
  2. 2The CPU usually contains a number of microprocessors (multi-core)A multi-core processor is an integrated circuit of 2+ processors for enhanced performance, reduced power consumption and more efficient processing of tasks.
  3. 3There are four key factors which effect a CPU performance-1) The number of cores
    2) Clock speed
    3) Cache size
    4) Processor type
  4. 4There are three functions of the CPU-Fetch, decode, execute
  5. 5The different functions are done by the following-1) Fetch - (RAM/Cache)
    2) Decode (ALU)
  6. 6There is a term called Clock speed when describing a CPU, this means-How many instructions the CPU can do in a second.
  7. 7The CPU can 'fetch' data from different sources, 1) being the fastest and 3) being the slowest1) Cache
    2) RAM
    3) Secondary storage
  8. 8Cache stands for-The quickest form of temporary memory used by the CPU.
  9. 9Cache Memory has different levels-A level 1 (L1) cache is a memory bank built into the CPU chip.
A level 2 cache (L2) is a secondary staging area that feeds the L1 cache.
  10. 10Caches are typically static RAM (SPAM), while main memory is generally some variety of dynamic RAM (DRAM).
  11. 11RAM stands for-Random Access Memory
