Flashcards
Poling and Interrupts
Cards in this deck (4)
- 1What is Polling?Polling is when the CPU checks with each device if it needs attention.
- 2How can poling waste time?As a device may not need any sort of attention, time could be potentially wasted.
- 3What is an interrupt? The device simply sends a signal to the CPU via the use of the control bus in order to gain attention.
- 4The process in the CPUAfter checking if there are any signals, if there is any sort of interrupts, all the data currently in the register is copied over to the stack, where it is temporarily stored. After the process has been completed, all the data in the stacks are then transferred back over to the registers within the CPUs.
