Flashcards
Client server & peer to peer networks
Cards in this deck (11)
- 1What is a client server network?a network that is managed by a server, the devices connected to the server are clients.
- 2what is stored on the server, usually?files and software are stored there, rather than on individual client devices
- 3what is the client server relationship?clients send requests to the servers, for example asking for data, the server then processes the request and responds.
- 4Do websites follow the client server relationship?Yes, websites such as Facebook will store all of their user data and passwords on a server, requesting passwords before fulfilling certain requests etc.
- 5what are the 5 pros of the client server model?- easier to keep track of files, stored centrally
- easy to perform backups
- easy to install and update software
- easier to manage security (anti malware etc)
- servers are reliable and always on - 6what are the 3 cons to the client server model?- expensive to set up and maintain
- depends on the server
- server may become overloaded - 7what is a peer-to-peer network?a network where all devices are equal, connecting directly to each other without a server
- 8where are files stored on a P2P network?files are stored on individual device and share them with others
- 9where is a P2P network found?in a home, for example to connect devices to a printer
- 10what are the 2 pros to P2P networks?- easy to maintain, don't need knowledge
- no dependance on server - 11what are the 5 cons to P2P networks?- no centralised management
- copying files creates duplicae files
- backups are complicated
- peer machines are less reliable
- machines slow down when other devices access them
