1. it is non volatile storage. it is needed in a computer system to store your programs,operating systems and files

   • non volatile means that the data is not deleted when the computer system has no power connected to it

   • advantages
     • more cost effective than solid state storage as it is cheaper
     • more portable than magnetic storage as it can go into many different devices easier
   • disadvantages
     • less durable than magnetic storage as it can break easier
     • have less capacity than a solid state storage as it only has 50GB but a solid state storage can have up to 1024GB

   • advantages
     • faster read/write speed than magnetic
     • more durable than magnetic
   • disadvantages
     • less capacity than magnetic
     • less portable than optical
