User Interfaces
Command Line Interface (CLI)
- Uses nemonics as commands.
- Experienced users will find a CLI easy to use and easier to navigate around than a GUI or Menu Based Interface
- Requires much less main memory and CPU processing power in order to run due to the simplicity of the interface.
- You have to know all of the specific commands to effectively use a CLI
- Not intuitive, can't be figured out over time like a GUI or Menu Based Interface
Menu Based Interface
- Presents the user with a menu that contains a list of options. The user will then navigate through several submenus unti they find what they want.
- Very simplistic and user friendly.
- Very easy to adapt for different users
- Can be frustrating due to amount of submenus
- Options are limited and more complex actions are very difficult to be performed
Graphical User Interface (GUI)
- Designed around WIMP. WIMP is windows, icons, menus and pointers. A GUI uses a cursor (pointer) to interact with the windows ,icons and menus
- Easy to use for beginner users as it is very intuitive and users can learn by doing.
- It is very easy to move data between software applications.
- Takes a lot of main memory and CPU processing power to run
- Can be frustrating for experienced users.
