atomic structure
facts
- all atoms are made up of protons neutrons and electrons
- an elements has only one kind of atom
- there has to be the same amount of protons as electrons
- atoms are measured in atomic mass
- there are isotopes which have different amount of neutrons
- e.g chlorine has 35 neutrons and 37 neutrons and 75% are 35 and 25% are 37 therefore you do (35x75)+(37x25) = 2625 + 925 =3550 3550/100 = 35.5
- to find the amount of protons in an element you you just look at the bottom number and it is the same
- to find the neutrons you do the top number - the bottom number
sub-atomic structure
- protons
- found in the nucleus
- has a mass of 1
- is positive charge +1
- neutrons
- found in the nucleus
- has a mass of 1
- doesn't have a charge is neutral 0
- electrons
- found i shells
- has a mass of almost 0
- has a negative charge
- protons
different atomic model
- 1. daltons billard ball model atom in 1805 its a solid sphere with a small circle in it
- 2.thomson's plum pudding model 1904 its still a solid sphere but is has negative and positive particles
- 3. Rutherford nuclear atomic model 1911 it is a model with a solid nucleus that has shells going around it with negative charged particles on it
